We have four windows facing Southwest that were making those rooms really unbearable in the summer months - especially the kitchen window over the sink.  Dan customized awnings that would allow us to open our crank-out style windows while providing the shade we needed. Being fortunate enough to live in the Rio Verde Foothills area, when we built our home, views were all important from our East facing living room. We designed it with 5 huge windows that measure 8 feet by 6 feet each! It didn’t take long to realize that, in the summer months, until the sun rose above the patio, the room was almost unlivable, and our A/C would run constantly to keep up.
We didn’t want drapes or shutters, as we have in our other rooms, because of our view. After talking with Dan Cohorst, of Square D Awnings it became obvious he had the solution. He installed roll up shades on each window, especially designed for high wind locations, with guide wires attached to both sides to keep the shades in place.
We’ve had the shades installed now for about 18 months and we’re very happy with the results. The difference in temperature and “livability” of the room is amazing. You can see through the blinds, so we still are able to enjoy the view. (Dan installed our blinds so that they roll up above the window when not in use, so that they are invisible inside the house). Our utility bill was reduced significantly in the summer, and at the end of the summer, when we raised the blinds permanently for the fall, we all remarked upon how much “glare” there was without the blinds down!.
We are delighted we made the choice to use these blinds to solve our window treatment problem, and even happier we chose to use Dan and “Square D Awnings” when it came time to purchase. Thanks Dan!
